Junior Team Set

The Junior Freestyle World Team is set after some interesting results at the Trials in the Dallas area this weekend. The team is loaded for potential for lots of medals to come back to the states from France in August.

The bracket to watch was (once again in the United States) 74 kg where Mark Hall was in the seat waiting for the winner of the challenge tournmanent that included future teammates and Logan Massa. Jason Nolf was able to erase a 5-0 defecit to win on a buzzer beater takedown 6-5 over Massa. However, he was quickly shut down by Mark Hall 10-0 in the first final before falling 10-6. He hung in there with takedowns in the 2nd match but Hall's par terre offense was the difference.

Four Junior Open Champs competed in Beat The Streets on Thursday night in Times Square before flying to Dallas. Mitch Mckee won his battle with the Iranian 8-8, but fell in three matches to Seth Gross. Gross was able to get to legs all tournament and use positions to rack up exposure points and earn his spot on the team.

Zahid Valencia fell in his bout in Times Square, but was able to impressively sweep NCAA runner-up Bo Nickal. It was very surprising (to me at least) that Nickal was a point scoring machine during his freshman NCAA campaign but failed to get anything going against the Sun Devil.

Going takedowns with Alec Pantaleo has been a tall task for most of the country during the Wolverine's first two seasons. This has translated to freestyle well as he makes the World Team as he continues to move up the ladder in his career.
