Due to a rule about weighing in if the medical appeal is within 18 hours of the event, Nick Marable was denied his appeal for a special wrestle-off. James Green will be the USA's representitive at 70 the World Championships this September in Las Vegas.
It's good news since it was widely thought that Marable simply missed weight, and then filed for the medical extension. Appeals have been granted before and have led to controversy. It seemed like the wrestling community as a whole felt Green was the worthy winner of the spot and that this is good news.
James Green had looked impressive at the US Open and World Team Trials outside of one slip up with Kevin LeValley. Green was winning 5-1 late when LeValley staged a comeback to tie it up and win 5-5 on criteria. Green hasn't lost this freestyle season otherwise including a tech over LeValley 13-0 and two impressive wins over favorite Dustin Schlatter.
James Green and Kyle Snyder are certainly the youngest guys on the Freestyle team this year, but don't be shocked if either of them medal.
