Michigan's Heavyweight monster, Adam Coon, will redshirt this season as reported by Michigan's official team website citing an undisclosed injury. Coon is a 2-time All-American finishing 2nd and 3rd in the past two seasons. This will be his first redshirt season of any kind.
Coon's decision to redshirt is not surprising even if an injury wasn't a factor. He has had a busy couple seasons with success also coming in Greco-Roman where he was the runner-up to Olympian Robby Smith.
Some will immediately speculate if Coon's redshirt may lead a tidal wave of other Wolverines to follow suit. Michigan has three top tier guys who have yet to redshirt. Alec Pantaleo, Brian Murphy, and Dominic Abounader could also take the year off while the highly anticipate Logan Massa & Stevan Micic get seasoning with their freshman seasons.
