Lost in the Shuffle

There was plenty of action in the Wrestling world this weekend. Here are some items you may have missed.

Kasper says "It's cool, I got this":

Jacob Kasper got the pin that gave Duke a nice dual win over Navy. The six points from the win gave the Blue Devils the tie that got them the win on criteria. Even cooler, Kasper told his coach not to worry before the match. According to Duke's website: "I don’t know if [Kasper] saw the worry on my face, but he told me ‘relax Coach, I’m going to get the fall’,” Lanham said. “I believe it, but seeing it is believing it. Everybody is going to give him their best match and he wrestled within his ability and got the fall for us. He’s a true leader for us.”

Mattin stuns Lizak:

Tomasello wasn't the only top 125 to fall this weekend to a true freshman. Michigan's Drew Mattin got the takedown in sudden victory to beat Minnesota's Lizak 6-4.

Someone thought it'd be fun to fight Joey Davis:

Kevin and I love these stories. MMA fighters have to get there start somewhere. Unfortunately for some, the other guy with not many fights on his record could be a highly decorated Wrestler. Notre Dame College's four-time DII National Champ improved to 3-0 in his MMA career when he kicked 3-4 Ian Butler in the liver 39 seconds into their fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California. It's also worth noting, Davis is literally from Compton. Rethink your life decisions Mr Butler.

Rider ends the EWL reign of Edinboro:

Edinboro hadn't lost an EWL dual since 2013. That changed on Friday when Rider won the bonus point battle winning 21-15 after a 5/5 match split.

Oliver out for Central Michigan:

#3 Justin Oliver fell 3-1 to Grant Leeth as part of Missouri's dual win in Mt Pleasant Friday. Unfortunately, Oliver is expected to be out awhile. CMU pulled the redshirt off of Nolan Saxton and stated they hope to have OIiver back this season. The 2016 All-American Oliver had some injury issues last season, but appeared be healthy climbing the rankings all the way #3.

Murderers' Row

Penn State's five national champions in a row are undefeated on the year and like to score bonus points. This was not any more evident during their Big Ten dual against Maryland on Sunday when all five got first period pins.

Kids wearing 2-piece uniforms in high school is not Armageddon:

I've ref'd and seen a lot of matches this year with 2-piece uniforms, the rule new to high school this season, and I haven't had one issue. I like the option for teams for the time being. I think eventually the singlet should go away in high school as it is an unnecessary barrier to entry in our sport.
