Adrian!

Hopefully, you read the headline with Rocky’s voice in your head. My blog a day failed as expected, but sooner than I hoped. My week had literally been a barn burner from the moment I woke up to the moment I slept. I did sneak some golf in so don’t feel bad for me. I had to take advantage of spring finally arriving to West Michigan.

Siena Heights, an NAIA school, announced Whitney Condor-Cox as their new Head Coach for the Women’s Wrestling program. Across town, Adrian College (division three) has been at the forefront of women’s wrestling with their strong program and hosting many prestigious events. Whitney had been a strong competitor on the Senior level for many years and won two Pan Am gold medals. Her hire is a huge boost for the young program.

While we took some heat on twitter for not knowing, she is married to J’Den Cox. I literally had no idea, but with him training in Ann Arbor for the Cliff Keen WC not too far away, the ability for Siena Heights to land such a big name makes a little more sense.

Adrian is a city of about 20,000 people, but they find themselves with two developing women’s wrestling programs.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association has adjusted their travel restrictions. What really restrained wrestling teams was not only they were allowed to travel under a certain mileage, there couldn’t be another team at the event that traveled there over a distance as well. So, no Michigan teams are at the Ironman, Cheesehead, etc. It’ll be interesting to see if Detroit Catholic Central, Lowell, and others take advantage. It’ll also be interesting to see if out of state teams will travel to Michigan for some events.
