Robin

Robin Williams wrestled in high school and spoke about sometimes. I was delighted to watch him wrestle Jay Leno once on the Tonight Show. His appearance on Louie is still one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

Roger Kish is my age and from Michigan so I am wholeheartedly rooting for him as he takes the helm at the University of Oklahoma. The hire by the athletic program is a great one. They have a relatively young coach with head coaching experience coming from a lesser profile program that exceeded expectations. It’s the move up we see in all sports. Recruiting to North Dakota can’t be easy. Naturally, you expect a bump for Kish and the Sooners but we thought that with the last two hires and it didn’t happen. The Sooners are an interesting story on and off the Wrestling mat. Texas and Oklahoma will join the SEC, but all indications point to the Wrestling team staying in the Big 12. Oklahoma State is coming off its worst ever NCAA tournament finish. (That’s not hyperbole. It was their worst ever placing.) The state has less than four million as a population and that could be a big factor. There is tons of wrestling tradition in the state, but being little brother in a lightly populated one can’t help. Are people worried about the Wrestling program with the move to the SEC? Either way, I believe Coach Kish will fill out a capable coaching staff and start making waves.

Is Missouri vs Oklahoma technically the SEC Championship soon?

Obe Blanc will take over at North Dakota State. It’s a great internal hire, and the program shouldn’t miss a beat.

The NCAA rule change suggestions continue to be debated. The 3-point takedown is a headline grabber, but the 3-point near fall has been largely ignored. It makes basic sense. Hold a person in criteria for 2 get 2, 3 get 3, and 4 get 4. However, if you thought nobody wanted to be an NCAA official before, this could be quite awful. Expect a lot of bricks thrown on 3-point near falls perhaps even from both teams. If I know coaches, one side will think it was two while the other four. Double brick toss! Take a drink!
